where's our cereal miracle?

When I took Carlee in for her two month appointment and immunizations, the pediatrician suggested that I start feeding her a teaspoon of baby cereal with her food, once in the morning, and again before she went to bed. I was hesitant because at my six weeks postnatal appointment, a nurse told me not to feed her anything but milk until she was at least three months old, though she would recommend four. So, even after the pediatrician suggested it, I still waited a day or two debating it.

I finally tried it. Since I was trying to exclusively breastfeed her at the time, I added the cereal to my milk. She ate a small amount and would stop. Then not long afterward, she got really fussy. I mean really fussy. So, I listened to her, and decided maybe she wasn't ready for it. I tried again a week later, same result at even a small amount of cereal. Ok, Carlee, no more.

Three months old now... and she's usually not sleeping through the night like she should be. She wakes up at least once still, and on bad nights up to 2-3 times... HUNGRY!!! omg! "The book" says she should be sleeping through the night now at least 6-7 hours, and that her metabolism is strong enough to not need to eat during the night... well, Carlee of course has to be difficult! lol... So anyway, about two weeks ago, I went to the store and bought oatmeal cereal (since I had first tried the rice cereal because it looked less grainy to me). So, I tried the oatmeal, this time I put it with formula. She didn't like it. And I say she didn't like it, because she makes this funny face with a scrunched up nose, furrowed eyebrows, and pushes the bottle out of her mouth. I did get her to eat a little bit, and this time it didn't upset her stomach. She was fine as soon as I quit trying to feed it to her.

By this point I was getting really frustrated, because I would like to start sleeping through the night on a regular basis, not just on good nights that happen once in a blue moon. So, a few days ago, I went to the store again, and this time bought oatmeal with bananas. I had refrained from buying the flavored ones, because the same nurse as earlier told me that when we do start feeding Carlee food, to go in this order: cereal, vegetables, meat, fruit. She said to save fruit for last because if they taste that first, then they won't like the other baby foods. But at this point I was willing to try anything.

The night before last was the first time I tried feeding it to her. She made the same face, the same hissy fit. I don't know if she just doesn't like the feel of the cereal, or the taste, or what! I did finally get her to eat about an ounce of it, and she slept through the night! Thank God! but when I tried to feed it to her last night, she wouldn't have any of it. She was perfectly fine the other night, so I assume her digestive system is comfortable with it. I'm hoping she'll get used to the taste soon, because even during the day she wants to nurse about every hour and a half to two hours! That's a newborn's schedule! geez!!!

lol... anyway, that's our latest Carlee drama! :D
